Staycation 2011

This year was different. My birthday that is, I'm getting to that age where celebration is getting extinct. You know, I'm 28 which is more that half way to 50, and almost 30. But regardless, this year was a celebration. I needed it and a weekend stay with my family on a near-by island was just what I needed. It was an escape from reality. I really take for granted how awesome it is to live in Florida and be a 45 minute drive to this beautiful island.

I'm a girl who doesn't need birthday presents, shoot I don't even have a birthday list. All I wanted this year was health. Being able to lather CC's sun kissed cheeks with sunblock every morning was enough present for me. I didn't get to do that last year or the year before. The fact I got to smile, a genuine smile made this weekend was better than I could have asked for. My birthday present woke up and sung me happy birthday from his pack n play. I was just happy to "be" this year. Thankful to have CC here and healthy. Thrilled to be able to push a stroller all weekend. To me, it was simplicity of the things that I craved for 2 years.

This weekend was spent waking up and walking out on our balcony to see the gulf and play in our jammies. We spent countless hours basking in the warm HOT Florida sun and taking dips in the almost bath water temp ocean. We watched CC attempt to take his first crawl and eat his first fist full of sand. Mmmmm

It was such a gorgeous weekend. The days were full of sun and the afternoon brought showers, just enough that you didn't feel guilty leaving the beach when we did. And did I mention how amazing the sunsets were from our view. AH-mazing.

Until next year, Happy Birthday to me.
